The Poole and Christchurch Bays Shoreline Management Plan (SMP)

SMP2 (2010) covers the 190km / 118 mile length of coast between Durlston Head in the west and Hurst Spit to the east, and addresses coastal flood & erosion risks.

Sandbanks Coast Protection 1995 - 2003

Two schemes at Sandbanks that pre-date our website - the construction of Rock Groynes (1995 & 2001) and Beach Replenishment 2003 - are described in a report from Borough of Poole’s Senior Engineer

Ongoing Coastal Process Research

Research into the coastal processes and sustainable shoreline management of central southern England is documented at www.scopac.org.uk.

Ongoing Coastal Process Monitoring

Since 2002 monitoring of the Poole Bay area has been undertaken by the Channel Coast Observatory as part of the South East Strategic Regional Coastal Monitoring Programme, providing detailed information for the development of coastal & flood defence strategies.

Other Studies

In 2006 Poole Harbour Commissioners published the Poole Harbour Aquatic Management Plan which looks at ways of maintaining sustainable levels of economic and social activity within the Harbour and its hinterland, while protecting its natural environment.

The Management Plan was last updated in 2011.
