Wessex Water ran a £3 million project ran alongside rock groyne construction, replacing the outfall pipe at Branksome Chine to prevent flooding of the car park area.

The original 375mm diameter pipe was more than 100 years old and unable to cope with the huge volume of waste water generated during extreme rainfall events. The new 350m long, 800mm diameter pipe is buried below sand and lies on the bottom of the seabed.

Assembly and connection began September 2008 and was completed by Easter 2009.

Photos below show Dean & Dyball's site compound and stockpiled rock. The pilings leading out to sea have been installed by Wessex Water to guide placement of the outfall pipe.

At the Quarry

All rock for the scheme has been supplied by Portland Stone Firms Limited. Much of the rock is produced as a by-product of producing dressed stone for the building industry. Our thanks to the company for allowing us to use these photographs of their quarry.

Resident's Photos - Christine Lockead

22nd January: Christine came across Carol, from our project team, fixing public information signs to the temporary fencing and was inspired to send us this selection of photographs from her visit to Branksome. Thank you Christine, for the pictures and your kind comments.
